Using a weather center to tutor, educate, advise, and excite
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s new weather facility is being prepared to host a variety of student- and faculty–centered activities.
With more than 50 students now pursuing the two year old Applied Meteorology degree program, sufficient undergraduate interest is available to staff the weather center in several simultaneous modes: tutorial, operational, and research.
This paper outlines the organization and objectives of a dynamic weather operations center as students prepare for careers in radio and television, business, aviation, and government service. New courses in Geographical Information System, atmospheric modeling, and cloud physics will make use of the computer power and advanced technology within the weather center.
