There are a number of initiatives and programs designed to teach middle and high school students what science really is - essentially "doing science" rather than just "learning about science."
Within this context, the presenter, a high school science teacher for the past 17 years, will illustrate and discuss a few investigations and tools that employ the use of data and information from online sources & from CD's or software and engage students in the active learning process where they are actually working as scientists, rather than just learning about science as a static activity.
Through the sharing of this information, perhaps, more classrooms across the nation can become more oriented towards "hands-on", "minds-on", "inquiry oriented" learning with active students who are excited at the prospect of attending science classes every day.
