Characterization of cyclone lifecycle evolution using cluster analysis
The cyclone phase space is fast becoming accepted as a valuable way of summarizing the key spatial characteristics of an evolving system. The broad regions of this phase space inhabited by stereotypical systems are intuitive, but the bounds on these regions are not well defined. Further, subtropical storms and other intermediate or hybrid systems can be identified and characterized using this phase space framework. In this paper, we explore the potential of cluster analysis for identifying the key system types captured in the cyclone phase space.
