AMSR/AMSR-E Validation Experiment during the R/V MIRAI Cruise
The Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer for the Earth Observing System (AMSR-E) onboard EOS Aqua satellite was launched in May 2002. The Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR) onboard Advanced Earth Observing Satellite-II (ADEOS-II) will be launched by the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) in November 2002. The AMSR/AMSR-E measure geophysical parameters supporting several global change science and monitoring efforts, including precipitation, water vapor, cloud water, sea surface temperature, and soil moisture.
Various field experiments related to AMSR/AMSR-E validation are scheduled. As contribution for validating AMSR/AMSR-E retrieved integrated water vapor and integrated cloud liquid water, we began continuous observations of these geophysical parameters by using microwave radiometer on board the R/V MIRAI operated by Japan Marine Science and Technology Center (JAMSTEC). The microwave radiometer (Radiometric WVR-1100) has two frequency bands 23 and 31GHz.
In this paper, we describe results of AMSR/AMSR-E validation during the R/V MIRAI cruise in arctic sea.
