Temperature and humidity profiles were measured in the marine atmospheric surface layer over the ocean from the stable platform R/P FLIP near Oahu, Hawaii as a part of the RED experiment. Five radiation-shielded sensors (thermistors for temperature, cooled-mirror dew pointers for humidity) were at fixed heights over the range 5 to 17m above the sea surface. Four sonic anemometers were also in the vertical array. Conditions were slightly unstable, typical of the trade-wind boundary layer. Initial evaluations of the flux-profile relationships indicate that the temperature and humidity profiles differ significantly from those over land and from each other.
