During the months of September and October of 2001, NOAA's Environmental Technology Lab (ETL), participated in the Eastern Pacific Investigation of Climate (EPIC). Instrumentation located on the NOAA research vessel Ronald H. Brown (RHB), created a unique observing platform for wind comparisons. This paper will examine comparisons of wind data collected from radiosondes launched from the ship, the RHB C-band Doppler radar, and one of ETL's lidars and the RHB wind profiler. This paper will also show how wind observations from each instrument varied in different cloud conditions, and how the ship's motion and direction might have had an affect on the data collected.
