The KWTV warning process

Gary A. England, KWTV, Oklahoma City, OK

The May 3, 1999 Oklahoma tornado outbreak severely tested the KWTV warning process. The intensity and frequency of the storms were somewhat unusual, and those facts combined with a devastating F5 in the Oklahoma City metro, created a tornado emergency. Preparation for the event, decisions and actions durng the event will be covered. Also, the question as to whether the KWTV warning model can be used successfully in other markets will be discussed.
