Observations of the boundary layer of Tropical Cyclone Vance

Jeffrey D. Kepert, BMRC, Melbourne, Vic, Australia; and G. J. Holland

In March 1999, Severe Tropical Cyclone Vance made landfall in the vicinity of Exmouth in northwestern Australia. Two sonic anemometers and a 920 MHz wind profiler in the path took observations up to when power was lost, shortly before the strongest winds occurred. This poster will show what our analysis of the data has so far revealed about the structure and dynamics of the boundary layer of a tropical cyclone.
