SEAFLUX: Ocean Surface Turbulent Flux Project

The GEWEX Radiation Panel has initiated a project to produce a high resolution dataset of the surface turbulent fluxes over the global ocean. This talk describes the following: • rationale for the project • present status of flux algorithms, in situ observations, NWP products, and satellite observations • recommendations for a strategy to produce this dataset • plans for a turbulent flux intercomparison project
