Effect of Atlantic basin tropical cyclone activity on peninsular Florida rainfall

Conventional thinking assumes that a hurricane season with above average tropical cyclone activity will produce above average rainfall over the peninsula of Florida. However, analysis of hurricane season activity and rainfall data indicates that there is actually a negative correlation between tropical cyclone activity over the Atlantic Basin and rainfall over the peninsula of Florida. It is hypothesized here that the decrease in rainfall is the result of suppressed rainfall during times that tropical cyclones move through the region without actual direct impact on the Florida peninsula.
