ESTIMATION OF SENSIBLE HEAT FLUX ON THE URBAN COMPLEX SURFACE

The airborne remote sensing measurement and the simultaneous ground surface observation were done at the central area in Tokyo. The heat budget of the about 80 square Km urban surface is analyzed and the area averaged sensible heat flux is estimated. The used heat budget model included the bulk parameterization for the turbulent heat flux and performed with remotely sensed surface temperature. The observed data determined the albedo and the heat constants for the urban surface. The sensible heat transfer coefficient is determined as the surface heat budget closes.
The estimated sensible heat flux shows good agreement with the observed boundary layer heat budget. The estimated sensible heat transfer coefficients show some variation with the land-use. However the surface temperature measured by the wide field of view sensor does not agree with the surface heat budget. This type of temperature is not the effective surface temperature for the urban surface heat budget.
