During the Coastal Waves 96 project, 400 vertical profiles were flown by an instrumented aircraft offshore of the central California coast during June 1996. The marine atmospheric boundary layer in this region during the summer is characterized by a jetlike wind profile and cool, moist air in the layer in contrast to warmer, drier air above. The density and velocity profiles from the 11 flights of Coastal Waves 96 were scaled and the resulting dimensionless forms and choice of scales will be discussed. Most profiles could be scaled similarly indicating that conditions were persistent during the experiment.
