5B.1
PRESSURE FLUCTUATION MEASUREMENTS OVER WAVES

Kimmo K. Kahma, Finnish Inst. of Marine Research, Helsinki, Finland; and W. M. Drennan and M. A. Donelan

So far, only a limited number of measurements have been published on pressure fluctuations above waves. Here we present new measurements from a research tower that cover a wide range of conditions including swell.

Our measured growth rates agree very well with previous measurements up to full development. For wave components exceeding the wind speed a negative growth is measured, indicating an upward flux in agreement with the growth rate parameter proposed by Donelan and Pierson. The implications for fluxes over the sea are discussed.
