SATELLITE DATA AVAILABLE FROM THE NOAA SATELLITE SERVICES DIVISION

Stephen D. Ambrose, NOAA/NESDIS, Washington, DC

With the widespread use of Internet and new and improved satellite platforms like GOES, POES, Meteosat, and GMS, satellite data has become more important to users. The GOES 8 and 9 satellites of the United States NOAA GOES Program provide continuous views of the Earth with exciting new channels, resolutions, and capabilities that stretch beyond meteorological uses and now extend into the land and oceanographic sciences. The NOAA POES system continues to provide high resolution satellite images for land, weather, and ocean monitoring. New and improved products, using GOES and POES imagery are rapidly being developed and provided to the user community through the Internet. The Satellite Services Division of NESDIS provides to customers a variety of these GOES and POES image and derived products retrospectively and in real time. These include winds, soundings, precipitation, hazard analysis, enhanced images, and text messages for a variety of products and events. The Internet has been an important tool in the dissemination of these products. This presentation will show users how to navigate services and capabilities of the Satellite Services Division Home Page to access these products and services. The Satellite Services Division Home Page can be found at http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/
