During June 1998, the High Plains, Northeast, Southern, and Western Regional Climate Centers conducted a survey of current and potential users of upper air data. The results of this survey will be used by the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) in designing future archiving and products of upper air data. An eight page survey with a business reply postage paid envelope was mailed to over 900 individuals. The individuals included all CCMs listed on the AMS home page, state climatologists, and selected researchers listed in the UCAR curriculum guide. The return rate was over 15 percent. The survey was also available on the world wide web. Announcements of the web site were made via Climlist, the American Association of State Climatologists' list-server, and the American Wind Energy Association's list-server. Survey data was analyzed in July 1998. Preliminary results were given at the AASC's annual meeting in August 1998
