PROGRESS TOWARD WINDFINDING AND WIND DATA CONDITIONING

This is a description of the NWS approach to conditioning winds obtained from the Automatic Radio-Theodolite using the new upper-air workstation. The results of the processing will be winds that better represent the actual winds and will be produced at a higher resolution than currently given. The use of a decision aid to determine ART lock- on time and the use of median and LOWESS (locally weighted scatter-plot smoothing) filters are featured in the wind data conditioning approach
