8.2
SIMULATION OF ARCTIC WEATHER WITH A SINGLE-COLUMN MODEL

Douglas G. Cripe, Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, CO; and C. L. Lappen and D. A. Randall

A single column model is used to simulate the moisture and temperature structure of the Arctic cloudy boundary layer. Special attention is focused on accurately simulating the layered structure of Arctic stratus clouds and their radiative effects on the boundary layer evolution. A case will be chosen during the spring intensive observation period of the Surface Heat and Energy Budget of the Arctic (SHEBA) field project. Results will be analyzed and compared extensively to measurement taken during SHEBA
