A Web-based, collaborative training tool, named VISITview, was created to facilitate the realization of the Virtual Institute for Satellite Integration Training as part of the NWS modernization goals. Several factors entered into the creation of this: the need to provide remote display and animation of image sequences under the control of the instructor, providing unique ways for the interactive visualization of multi-spectral data; easy, rapid, and platform-independent access to training materials; ease of creating lessons; and minimal cost. While the basic development of this took only a few days, experience gained while testing somewhat altered the strategy to accommodate a wider range of communication bandwidths. In the end, this project demonstrated an effective and cost-conscious way to meet these needs
