THE SHORT RANGE DATABASE AS THE HUB FOR ALL METEOROLOGICAL APPLICATIONS

Heinrich Müller, Swiss Meteorological Inst, Zürich, Switzerland

The paper describes the organisation of the short range database. All different incomming date (SYNOP, TEMP, PILOT, KLIMA, METAR, TAF etc.), satelite pictures, radar pictures and all data of the different Swiss Measurement Networks are fed to the operational short range database.
The database is the hub for the different applications. Copies of the master database are distributed to the different sites of SMI in Switzerland with the TCP/IP MULITCAST protocol. At the reception sites the content of the data base can be tuned to the operational needs
