P1.2
A GIS/RS PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION OF A FOG PRONE REGION

Robin D. Bridges, Jackson State Univ, Jackson, MS; and P. J. Croft

This paper will describe a preliminary investigation of a fog prone region (central Gulf Coast) according to the tools available through GIS/RS analysis. This region’s physiography, in conjunction with specific weather conditions, often leads to widespread dense fog development during the year. As part of a student project, data for the region were obtained and mapped according to land use and physical characteristics. These were then assessed with regard to the fog formation process and their potential to include more specific information in a mesoscale model for the region. The same parameters which play a role in fog formation and persistence will also be examined with regard to their possible role in convective initiation for the region
