William Hibbard, SSEC/University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI; and S. Emmerson, C. Rueden, T. Rink, D. Glowacki, N. Rasmussen, D. Fulker, and J. Anderson

The paper "A Java and World Wide Web Implementation of VisAD", presented at the 1997 AMS IIPS Conference, described plans for a scientific visualization and analysis system designed to exploit the capabilities of Java and the Web for platform independence and distributed computing. This system is now available and being used to develop applications for collaborative satellite data analysis and interactive steering of numerical simulations. The system supports a general numerical data model that can be adapted to virtually any scientific data or computation. The goal is to support sharing of data and computation between different data sources, different computers, and different discipines.
