TURBULENT PROCESSES OVER SHELTERED VEGETATION

Hao Wang, Iowa State Univ, Ames, IA; and E. S. Takle and J. M. Shen

Sheltered vegetation exists everywhere, and it is a commonplace. Although agroforestry shelterbelt system is a typical sheltered vegetation, sheltered vegetation is more widely distributed. It plays important roles in boundary-layer processes and their parameterization on the Earth surface. Sheltered objects cause very complicated turbulent structures. We conducted several field measurements and developed a shelterbelt turbulent flow model to characterize the sheltered vegetation turbulence and study the mechanisms. We will present the horizontal and vertical changes and variations near different types of vegetation under different shelters.
