As part of the ASMET (African Satellite Meteorological Education and Training) project, COMET® (The Cooperative Program for Operational Meteorology, Education and Training) hosted four meteorological trainers from Kenya and Niger for 9-month fellowships (September 1997 through May 1998) to learn the instructional design process in order to produce and utilize computer-aided learning (CAL). The fellowships were centered on the creation of a CAL module that focuses on the integration of satellite imagery of the ITCZ into analyses. Since many African meteorologists do not routinely incorporate satellite meteorology into analyses, this CAL product will become an integral part of satellite training throughout Africa. The meteorological trainers were involved in all phases of the production process, from selecting the topic, to writing the content, creating the design, producing the media, and doing the programming. The CAL module will be demonstrated and its impacts on African meteorological training and forecasting will be discussed
