THE IMPACT OF TROPICAL CYCLONE DISASTER AND ITS REDUCTION

Lianshou Chen, Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, Haidian District, Beijing, China

Tropical Cyclone disasters are often arisen from the storm surge, torrential rains and strong winds associated with a storm. Statistics shows that China has suffered most serious disasters from the tropical cyclones around the world either the economic loss and people's injured/death toll. Because China has the highest frequency of landfalling storms and has been struck frequently by super typhoons. Most of the storm caused disasters were resulted from those typhoons with erratic behavior in its motion, intensity change and impacts. In this paper, the erratic behavior of the storm were analyzed, and the current important measures of disaster prevention and preparedness were presented and discussed. Finally, some recommendations for improving measures on disaster reduction have been put forward and illustrated.
