RESEARCH EXPERIENCES FOR UNDERGRADUATES AT THE OKLAHOMA WEATHER CENTER- SUMMER 1998

Mark H. Palmer, Center for Analysis and Prediction of Storms, Norman, OK

The Oklahoma Weather Center conducted a Research Experiences for Undergraduates program (REU) during the summer of 1998. The purpose of the program was to introduce undergraduate students to meteorological research and help them make informed decisions regarding career paths. A total of 10 undergraduate students from across the United States participated in the 1998 program. Over the course of 10 weeks, these students conducted important meteorological research at the Weather Center.

As with previous REU programs at the Oklahoma Weather Center, mentors helped guide the participants through their research projects and methodologies. At the end of the program, the students had been exposed to the rigors of meteorological research, lectures, tools, and field experiences
