P1.3
APPLICATION OF DOPPLER RADAR PRECIPITATION ESTIMATES TO PEANUT PEST ADVISORY SYSTEMS

Rodger R. Getz, Agricultural Weather Information Service Inc, Auburn, AL; and S. D. Adams, E. M. Bauske, K. S. Harker, K. L. Bowen, and A. K. Hagan

Estimates of rainfall from the WSR-88D (Doppler) radar are compared with actual rainfall measurements at four peanut growing sites in Southeast Alabama. These rainfall observations are applied to pest management models for peanut leafspot and lessor cornstalk borer. The viability of using Doppler rainfall estimates in peanut pest mangement models is compared with traditional methods.
