A data assimilation method based on the well-known Kalman theory is presented in conjunction with the Modular Ocean Model (MOM_2) from NOAA/GFDL.This method is applied and verified along with the observational surface and subserface temperatures from the PIRATA dataset. The results of this application and a brief analysis are discussed.
