3.4 Algorithm Development in the Joint Polar Satellite System Era, SOAR: Satellite Operational Algorithm Readiness

4C-1 (Washington State Convention Center)
Laurie Rokke, NOAA/NESDIS, Camp Springs, MD

The NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) will lead the data product algorithm development for the JPSS/DWSS shared ground system as part of the larger STAR Satellite Operational Algorithm Readiness (SOAR) initiative. The SOAR program provides consistent management and policies across all NOAA satellite data sources, including NOAA operational, NASA research, or international missions. By providing an enterprise approach to life cycle (end-to-end) satellite algorithm development and cal/val activities across NOAA (and other) satellite missions and platforms, STAR will deliver the consistency and quality of sensor and product applications the U.S. needs for an effective global observing system. To serve the needs of the diverse operational missions of the different satellite programs, each algorithm program will be tailored for the operational mission from STAR's internal available scientific capacity within the Atmospheric, Ocean, and University Partnership Divisions, and augmented from the operational user communities.
