Joint Panel Disscussion 11 Utilization and Development of Rapidly Updating Mesoscale Models for Impact-Based Decision Support Services

Thursday, 14 January 2021: 1:00 PM-2:00 PM

Description:

The Warn-on-Forecast System (WoFS) project is one example of a rapidly updating high resolution model that ingests surface, satellite, and radar data in support of the Forecasting a Continuum of Environmental Threats (FACETs) initiative.  The latest innovations in WoFS, and other similar rapidly updating mesoscale models, now brings the potential of providing decision support services out to 6 hours about a specific high impact weather threat.  This session will explore the potential forecasting utility of these models in the 0-6 hour range, to include leveraging this information in an operational environment for impact-based decision support services.
