Randall G. Bass, FAA, WASHINGTON, DC

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is the United States (U.S.) Meteorological Authority for Aviation to the United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). As such, the FAA establishes policy, procedures, and requirements for aviation weather information within the U.S. National Airspace System (NAS), and represents the U.S. and promotes U.S. aviation weather interests at ICAO meetings and symposiums. The FAA also works closely with the National Weather Service to meet aviation weather requirements and transition successful research capabilities into operations, as well as with national labs, industry, academia, and other government agencies to conduct aviation weather research and develop weather standards for aviation operations. This presentation will highlight the ongoing efforts over the last year from those organizations within the FAA that research, produce, or consume weather information in support of maintaining a safe and efficient NAS, and take a look at plans for the future of aviation weather over the next 15 years under the FAA’s Info-Centric NAS concept.
