Even over the “flat” ocean, tropical atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) structures are complex and poorly observed. As a part of the MAGPIE experiment in August 2023, a Compact Raman lidar (CRL) and a Doppler lidar are integrated into one scanning platform to sample the water vapor, temperature, aerosol, and radial wind of the same airmass simultaneously. The system, located at ~14 m vertically and ~30 m horizontally from the ocean, focuses on the low maritime ABL structures by collecting fixed-pointing and scanning measurements. Surface-pointing measurements offer the first high-resolution structures of the surface layer in terms of aerosols, water vapor, and temperatures. The variations of the surface layer structure, including sea spray aerosol productions, under different wind conditions will be illustrated. Preliminary results of spatial variability of WV, T, wind, and vertical mixing in the low ABL under different large-scale conditions will also be highlighted.
