The transformation of Big Data infrastructure from on-premise supercomputers toward cloud computing provides new opportunities to democratize access. We have been exploring the potential for working directly with different stakeholder groups on cloud infrastructure to explore cloud computing options and standard workflow. Collaborating across internal science, applications and data systems groups and with external data hubs, our long-term goal is to increase practical uses of satellite data and model products developed at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center working with end users to co-produce actionable information to support their decisions. Here we describe early progress and lessons learned to transform and curate datasets for use in community level applications. We will also discuss some of the challenges in preparing ‘plug and play’-analysis ready datasets for community use, defining standard operating procedures for exchanging data and co-producing solutions, and sustained stakeholder engagement.
