Description:
The Madden Julian Oscillation, Boreal Summer Intraseasonal Oscillation, and equatorial Rossby waves are the three most influential waves on intraseasonal time scales in tropical regions. These waves bring extreme weather to low latitudes, posing an increased risk to human health, nature, and infrastructure. For example, extreme rainfall events often occur during their convectively active phases. Other examples of extreme weather have also been documented in the past: fire weather, tornadoes, tropical cycles, flood, surface temperature etc. Focused studies on the impact, dynamics, and prediction of extreme weather associated with intraseasonal oscillations are all welcome in this session.
