Description:
Much of the research involving the MJO, monsoon, and intraseasonal variability ultimately aims at increasing forecast skill on subseasonal timescales, bridging the forecast skill gap that resides between synoptic and seasonal timescales. End users include private and public forecast centers that apply forecasts to predictions of precipitation, tropical cyclone activity, water quality, coastal flooding, etc.. To that end, this session invites presentations from those involved in the research-to-operations (R2O) community. We encourage presentations that discuss, but are not limited to, new forecast skill metrics, ensemble prediction systems, model parameterization tuning, operational product development, uncoupled & coupled model advances, and end-user products that advance operational forecast capabilities and utilities related to subseasonal variability or monsoon systems. We also welcome presentations from end users on specific applications of subseasonal forecasts and current/future needs of operational forecasters. Presentations anywhere along the R2O development, testing, validation, transition, and application stage are welcomed.
Submission Deadline: Thursday, 31 August 2023
