Session Beyond Boundaries: Remote Sensing in Highlighting and Bridging Gaps for Environmental Justice

Description:

The hazards, whether natural or anthropogenic, will persist in the future, more so under rapidly evolving climate. This session invites scientific contributions from various disciplines including climate science, ecology, and microbiology, to explore the interconnectedness of hazards, community exposure, and vulnerability, with a focus on highlighting disproportionate environmental burdens. Aligned with NASA’s ESD Earth Science to Action Strategy, which envisions 'A thriving world, driven by trusted, actionable Earth science,' this session aims to showcase innovative and practical applications of NASA Earth science data, knowledge, and technology. These applications seek to address previously overlooked disparities, shed light on environmental inequities, and/or inform evidence-based decision-making to benefit communities across various scales. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across fields such as geosciences, engineering, medicine, and public health, the session aims to cultivate actionable knowledge and community engagement. Ultimately, the goal is to use Earth science to advance discussions on environmental justice and drive meaningful action towards a sustainable future.
