Session Benefits of International Public-Private Partnerships & Global Data Sharing

Description:

Public-private partnerships (PPPs), while cost-effective and efficient mechanisms for the exchange of both data and services for agencies and organizations, are still not widely used nor adopted in the Weather, Water, and Climate Enterprise. The National Mesonet Program and the Commercial Weather Data Buy Program are two such domestic U.S. data buys that have taken root over the years. But on the international stage, PPPs have exploded in popularity and there are numerous growing partnerships between National Meteorological and Hydrological Service centers, the World Meteorological Organization, and the private sector. These involve data from the surface to upper-air as well as services ranging from data storage, data delivery & sharing, and data visualization.

This session will introduce a few of these partnerships and discuss the benefits for all involved. It will also delve into best practices as well as the tools and services provided to member states to support their operations and missions.
