Description:
The increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events pose significant challenges to urban infrastructure and community resilience in the built environment. As a city that has been frequently impacted by extreme precipitation events, New Orleans offers a perfect venue for us to discuss the impacts of natural hazards on the built environment's resilience, adaptive capacity, and vulnerability, aligning with the AMS 2025 theme “Towards a Thriving Planet”. During this town hall, we will navigate through research findings, real-life case studies, and community insights on the repercussions of hydrometeorological extremes such as floods, storms, hurricanes, and droughts for critical infrastructure. By fostering dialogue among scientists, engineers, policymakers, and local water agencies, this town hall aims to cultivate actionable strategies for building a more climate-ready community, not only in New Orleans but also in cities worldwide. Join us for an engaging conversation on the challenges of a changing climate in our urban areas.
