Mesoscale meteorology: The last twenty years and the next
In this talk I shall review accomplishments in mesoscale meteorology over the last twenty years, including mesoscale convective systems, the mesoscale structure of tropical and extratropical cyclones, orogenic circulations, coastal phenomena, and the background mesoscale spectrum. Turning to the future, it is apparent that mesoscale meteorology will play an increasingly important role in the study of global climate as well as in weather forecasting. The increasing skill of short-term forecasts of mesoscale features will demand new ways of distributing information to the end user.
