P9.1 The transition from the MM5 to the WRF Model in NCAR's Four-Dimensional Weather System (4DWX)

Thursday, 7 October 2004
Jason C. Knievel, NCAR, Boulder, CO; and J. P. Hacker

At present, NCAR's Four-Dimensional Weather System (4DWX) supplies analyses and forecasts to six test ranges of the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command. For eight years the backbone of 4DWX's forecasting has been the MM5 Model. Now NCAR is in the process of implementing in the system the new Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model. This poster will provide an overview of 4DWX's transition from MM5 to the WRF Model, and will highlight the advantages the WRF Model offers in forecasting weather conditions that are particularly critical to successful operations at U.S. test ranges.
