A water vapor profiling retrieval for use in clear and cloudy conditions is developed for use with the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit (AMSU). The scheme will be used for both operational and climate applications. We examine the sensitivity of the retrieval to the initial guess and choice of radiative transfer model. Impacts of clouds on the retrieval will be examined. We investigate a Bayesian and optimal estimation approach.
