The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) utilizes air traffic delay and demand information, among other measures, to assess system performance and efficiency. Recently, the National Weather Service (NWS) has expressed interest in aviation forecast quality assessment based on FAA weather delay information. This presentation outlines possible uses for weather delays, and Aviation System Performance Metrics, in NWS forecast verification through statistical analysis of a San Francisco aviation forecast dataset.
