Graphical Displays of Pollen Concentration Forecasts

Forecasts of pollen concentrations via trajectory and mesoscale numerical models are currently being conducted by several research groups. Although these groups have different end goals in mind, each group needs to make the information available to others in form that easily understood. These groups make the information available to a diverse audience ranging from a nightly television weather forecast, a farmer who is concerned with pollination of his crops and wind borne diseases, to the allergy sufferer who needs to know when to take their medication. There are complex tools, such as VIS5D and GrADS, available to the researcher; few tools are available to make the information available to end-user. A review of how these tools can be used to make this complex information more readily understandable is presented. Examples of how this information will be presented in the Saint Louis area will be discussed including web page displays and television broadcasts.
