This paper presents results of an assessment of the Umkehr ozone profile data. The recently developed UMK04 ozone profile retrieval algorithm is optimized for trend analysis. The impact of the retrieval algorithm on the derived trends is analyzed through comparisons of the Umkehr data processed with several retrieval algorithms. High quality Umkehr data had been acquired for over more than 20 years at well-maintained Umkehr stations in Europe, Japan, Australia and United States. Day-to-day changes and monthly variability observed in the Umkehr retrieved ozone data are discussed. Results are summarized by latitude of stations, as well as by time periods. There are several questions addressed in the Umkehr data analysis, such as change in the seasonal cycle, trends, autocorrelation, solar cycle and the QBO signal that are deduced from the Umkehr records. Comparisons against other datasets (satellite, sonde, lidar/microwave) will be presented.
