The Jet Propulsion Laboratory has been using a modified version of the high-resolution three-dimensional chemistry-transport model MIMOSA-CHIM to simulate the transport and diffusion of small-scale polar ozone filamentation in the midlatitudes. The EOS-Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) onboard Aura started global measurements of ozone in August 2004. Lower stratospheric ozone modeled by MIMOSA and measured by MLS will be compared over the three-year period August 2004- June 2007. A large range of lower stratospheric ozone-related phenomena will be investigated, including the polar ozone depletion and recovery for the corresponding five hemispheric winters, ozone dilution in the midlatitudes, and outstanding meridional transport events. Because of the multi-year character of the dataset, focus will be made on the interranual variations of the abovementioned phenomena
