P, 22 - Public-private partnerships in forestry: Connecting forestry and communities for properity

This session will focus on contractual relationships between two or more entities, intended to foster and sustain collaborative stewardship in natural resources communities. Specifically, this session will discuss and examine working models where partners have come together to deliver a program or project, recognizing that they each could share in short or long term capital and / labor losses and /or profits. Other business related issues in these model partnerships to be discussed will include, but not be limited to, direct and indirect cost(s), procurements as well as impacts and challenges of some federal regulations and agency’s obligating authorities.

Several persons with name recognition representing various part of the United State will comprise the panel. This panelist will discuss and demonstrate essential elements of their model partnerships against the background of their respective communities. Presentations will include discussions, overheads and related handouts. Additionally, The organizer of this session will give an opening presentation on the related subject, will moderate the session and provide a bit of summary toward the end of the question and answer time.

Some participants will leave the session with a working knowledge of the foundations of successful partnerships: the business component. Others will take with them relevant up-dates for successful partnerships. All participants should leave with an increase in their learning curve regarding public –private partnerships in forestry: connecting forestry and communities for prosperity.
