Hall 4 (Phoenix Convention Center - West and North Buildings)
Fast response temperature and three dimensional wind measurements were made on board the NASA P-3B aircraft off the western coast of Central Africa in support of the 2018 ORACLES field mission. Three dimensional wind and temperature data were sampled at 20 hz in and around both clouds and smoke from fires transported from Africa during the late winter and early spring. This is a first look at the data collected during the deployment which was based out of the island of Sao Tome. We will examine turbulent power spectra and temperature flux measurements made during marine boundary layer and in-cloud legs. We will also compare fluxes measured in 2018 to those made during the previous two years sampling essentially the same region during different months looking for temporal and spatial patterns and differences.
