Isentropic analysis can be used to study the motion of air masses above the boundary layer. The IDV's 3D isentropic analysis feature makes it intuitive to diagnose the horizontal and vertical motion of parcels in the atmosphere, providing insight into the dynamic and stability of weather phenomena. In addition to the isentropic analysis, other work has been focused on incorporating GOES16 GLM data sets. The IDV can now access real time GLM from a THREDDS Data Server (TDS). Improvements in the 3d smoothing have been made also in the latest release.
