Information Technology has become ubiquitous in the sciences and the general culture of the United States and the World. The Environmental Information Processing Technologies (EIPT) Conference attempts to bring the IT used in the pursuit of science to the forefront. There was a time, though, when IT was new and the techniques and tools used by scientists, and especially meteorologists, were not widespread. The first International Conference on Interactive Information and Processing Systems for Meteorology, Oceanography and Hydrology (IIPS) was held at the 65th AMS Annual Meeting in Los Angeles.

This poster takes a look at those early years of the IIPS Conference and their lasting effect on the weather industry. It is part one of the “History of IIPS/EIPT”. The full history will be explored at the AMS 100th Annual Meeting.
