As part of the new product suite from the recent GOES-16 launch, updated observation techniques such as the Global Lightning Mapper (GLM) have enhanced visualization of convection to support aviation operations. As part of the new product adaptation, GLM data has been made available to forecasters in the Aviation Weather Center (AWC) to support Integrated Decision Support Services (IDSS) and the production of convective hazard forecasts. Not only do the GLM grids support domestic operations, but the full grid capability equally enhances the support of the AWC international operations through convective identification for both Tropical SIGMET and global graphics verification in South America. This presentation will demonstrate some use cases of GLM at AWC.
