Many efforts have been made to diversify the atmospheric and related sciences, including being mindful of the languages in which we communicate scientific information to the public. At the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), the Education and Outreach office is working to broaden the reach of NCAR science to Spanish-speaking communities. The bilingual outreach project at NCAR includes providing resources to visitors of our museum, bilingual material distributed during outreach events, and participation in outreach events geared towards Spanish-speaking communities. The NCAR Explorer Video Series reports about NCAR supported field campaigns in both English and Spanish. Videos highlight not only the research of the campaign, but also the people involved like scientists, engineers, technicians, program managers, and students, as well as the local communities where campaigns take place. The Denver Spanish news station, Telemundo partners with NCAR to reach the public and inform viewers of opportunities to engage with NCAR scientists. Now we hope to build a community of practice by inviting institutions with similar goals to share bilingual materials and good practices.
